emergency Car crashes into house on Altrincham Road in Baguley

Altrincham Road (A560) is the main road between Altrincham (A56) and Sharston (M56).

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attended a road traffic collision last night (Friday 5th September) at approximately 11.20pm, just before midnight.

A car had crashed into a house on Altrincham Road and caused serious damage to the front of the property. Today the property is boarded up, with lots of debris still visible at the scene.

GMP's press office have confirmed that a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and failing to stop. As of midday today, they remain in police custody for questioning.

Despite the carnage at the scene, GMP have said that no serious or life-threatening injuries were reported. It is believed that numerous people were taken to a nearby hospital (likely Wythenshawe Hospital) as a precautionary measure.

The offence of failing to stop is where a person doesn't remain at the scene of an incident, contrary to the Road Traffic Act (1988). As the person was arrested on suspicion of this offence, it could be assumed the person potentially fled the scene before later being found by police officers.

The most severe of the allegations, dangerous driving, can result in up to two years in jail if referred up to the Crown Court and found guilty.

The house that fell victim to the crash is currently for sale via an online bidding process. Rightmove shows the starting bid as £250,000, and the property is described as a "truly one off renovation opportunity".

It's located between a McDonalds and a Shell petrol station, and is just opposite the boundary of Wythenshawe Park. The McDonalds would have closed just minutes prior to the incident taking place, at 11pm.

Altrincham Road is a major A road with significant traffic all through the night, including trucks and heavy goods vehicles.
