Police recover handgun and ammo near Broadbent Road in Oldham
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say the discovery is part of their crackdown on deadly weapons on the streets.
The find took place at approximately 7am on Wednesday 27th August. Specialist officers from Operation Vulcan were conducting a search on a plot of land near to Broadbent Road in Oldham, following "proactive action within the community".
The handgun, along with over 70 viable rounds of ammunition, was found in a black bag by police officers. It's believed the handgun was "converted", though GMP did not elaborate on what they meant by this.
Operation Vulcan is a multi-agency initiative led by GMP to tackle organised crime in Cheetham Hill and Strangeways. In recent months, this initiative appears to have extended to the Derker area of Oldham.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Julien, part of the Operation Vulcan team, said that "firearms have no place on the streets of Oldham", and that "the Vulcan team has delivered yet another successful result in seizing a further firearm that could have been used for illegal purposes".
