medical Woman in 40s killed by falling tree branch in West Didsbury

The incident happened at the junction of Barlow Moor Road and Stanton Avenue.

Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the junction at approximately 7.15pm on Saturday 30th August.

Upon arriving, it was found that a woman in her 40s had been crushed by a tree branch that had fallen across the road and pavement. It's believed the tree in question was a beech tree.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene "despite the best efforts of emergency workers". Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident but are not treating the death as suspicious.

Councillor Richard Kilpatrick from Manchester City Council called it a "really awful and tragic situation", and also noted that the tree was on private land. Unusually, Stanton Avenue is also a private road, meaning the council have no responsibility for the upkeep.
